PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Bauer PRO Chest Protector has been re-engineered for 2012.  Though the new PRO model shares some of the same features as the 2011 model, new innovations and enhancements put the PRO among the top tier units in the industry.

Starting at the shoulders, the floaters have been widened to provide more coverage, and new removable foam pillows have been placed on the underside of the pads for additional protection.  Also, because these floaters sit closer to the neck for added protection, soft foam "bumpers" have been placed on the inside edge near the neck for comfort.  The secondary shoulder protection that sits underneath the main floaters are made of plastic and HD foam, and their profile has been widened and squared off to cover more of the shoulder joint.  A third HD foam shoulder joint protector sits below this second piece, which provides additional protection to both the joint and to the bicep area.

On the chest, Bauer has added a new "MAX-SORB" gel and vent armour foam pad over the sternum area which runs from the base of the neck down to the belly.  HD foam blocks provide significant coverage over the belly, and softer, LD foam pads extend around the side of the body for additional side impact protection.  Beneath the belly pad (sitting against the goalie's body) sits a removable LD foam liner that can be removed for drying and/or washing.  Like the 2011 pad, the belly protection features Bauer's Adjustable Belly System (ABS) which allows the pad to be raised or lowered by using velcro tabs on the back (at the neck area), or by attaching or removing the belly flap extensions at the bottom of the pad.

New for 2012, the sewn-in arms feature an innovative, durable velcro "Arm Adjust" system which can raise or lower the length of the arm padding by up to 2 inches.  Plastic caps sit comfortably over the elbows, and elongated, free floating arm floaters provide substantial bicep and forearm protection.

  • New square shoulder caps
  • MAX-SORB reinforced sternum protection

RATINGS & REVIEWS

Rated 5 out of 5 by from C/A I was trying to decide between this and the Vaughn V5. I took this one because I am six feet tall and have an arm span between 73 and 74 inches, this Bauer had some additional adjustments I was able to take advantage of for fitting. I was surprised though that right out of the box it was nearly perfect. Virtually no break in time need, All the mechanics seemed to be placed in the right spots. The only thing that i would suggest is to change the little tie downs that all of these companies use. Look where the elbows are and there is padding there that is tied down with generic type of shoe lace. Easy and cheap to fix. The price point was good for me and the value i am getting in return is worth the extra cash. Remember you pay for what you get. If you play at higher levels don't cheat on protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Short Arms! I have short arms and this device was a life saver! It feels thin, but not at the expense of protection. It really becomes part of you. My only critique would be to buff up the elbow protection. The cups seem a bit too thin, and the straps that hold them in place are terribly weak.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features, OK mobility Love the custom fit features of this chesty. When I first tried it I found the belly length to be too small so I used the ABS right way - problem solved. I micro adjusted the arms for a custom fit. It's not quite as mobile as I thought it would be but it's not horrible either. Overall it's a pretty good unit and it's protective.

PRODUCT Q & A

Is this soft like the bauer reactor 4000?

How does this compare to the reactor 4000? Is it soft and the pucks just fall, or is it hard and the pucks bounce far away?
Asked by: Jpatt
The belly blocks and arm foams are fairly hard, but the sternum plate has the Max-Sorb gel in it which is very soft. The Bauer Pro is also quite a bit beefier than the 4000, so it won't play quite as soft.

I am a 15 year old female goalie and I'm facing 18 year old AAA boys, so I need a good chesty to with stand that and I hope this is the one.

Yes, the Bauer Pro will be a great unit for older goalies facing AAA, High School, Junior A, and even college shots.
