PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

New for 2012, the 7800 Velocity 5 Catch glove has many changes and improvements when compared to it's predecessor - the 7600.  The most drastic chage has come in the shape of the glove which can be described as a cross between the 7990 and the 5500.  Total Goalie staffers who have tried the glove describe the glove as having a 5500 fit and feel, but with a more "forward" hand position and a steeper thumb angle.

The palm area has been redesigned with segmented plastic pieces between the seams and laced break area.  These changes give the glove a great feel, superior protection, and allow for a consistent break-in even with thicker padding.  A new, double-T web gives a massive wide and deep pocket along with a more open face to provide more natural net coverage while still keeping a legal size.  A notched heel and extra reinforcement in the top of the T web allow for easy stick handling and easy shooting from any glove position.

The backhand features added segments, including a substantial backhand finger pad, for increased protection.  The cuff opening has been widened for added wrist flexibility.  Internally, the glove has three hand straps (wrist, backhand, and fingers) along with spring mesh finger gussets for breathability and quick drying.  The wrist strap extends outside of the cuff so that it can be tightened without detatching the backhand padding.

Keys to a Proper Fit:

  • The goalie's fingers should extend out to the end of the finger stalls of the inside palm to ensure a proper fit. However, any more than 1/2" from the tip of the goaltender's finger to the end of the finger stall and the goaltender will not have the leverage needed to properly close and control the glove.

  • The heel of your hand should line up with the heel and cuff of the catcher. If not, the proper balance between the cuff and catching portion of the glove may be disturbed, making the glove too cumbersome while sacrificing protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent glove! I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the money for this glove. I almost bought a 7460 or 7490 glove but decided on this one. It took me a few days to break it in enough for a game. From the first game I have been extremely impressed. I've used this glove for more than half a season now. Very light weight and no stingers. This glove feels so natural and the puck always finds its way to the deep pocket. Not a single pop out with this glove. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for this glove!

Does it have a pro palm? Stingers?

Asked by: Anonymous
The 7800 comes with a fairly thick palm that also has segmented plastic inserts inside for even more protection. You can customize this glove to get a thicker palm if you wish, but the stock palm is pretty good.

How much work is needed to make this glove flexible?

I have used 2 brand new gloves in the past 2 years and have had trouble breaking the gloves in to let me easily close it. Both gloves have been baked right after purchase but that seems to not work very well. What about this glove. How easy is it to break it in?
Asked by: Anonymous
No one here has used in during play to give you a definitive answer, but when the glove came into the warehouse it seemed fairly flexible right out of the box. You can bake the gloves a few times if it helps to break it in - that should help quite a bit. A good idea might be to go on some of the online goalie forums (Goalie Gear Fanatics on FB, goaliecrease.net, goaliestore.com) and ask the question there. Someone there has definitely used this glove and can give you a better answer in regards to break-in time.

Which is better the rx pro glove or this glove?

I currently use the rx6 and am looking for an upgrade. I am a hybrid goaltender looking for a glove which will rely more on reflexes and blocking rather than just blocking.
Asked by: Anonymous
Both gloves are great and should fit your needs. The 7800 glove should be in our Chicago stores soon - my advice to you would be to go into a store and try both of them on to see which one feels better. That's really the best way to determine which glove is best for you.
