New for 2012, the Vaughn VP 7800 Velocity 5 Chest and Arm protector features several upgrades over the older 7600 model, while still retaining the same great protection and mobility features that goalies have come to love for years.
For starters, the shoulder floaters have been widened at the top outside shoulder location for added protection. The old aerospacer material on the floaters has been replaced by nylon to give a more solid blocking surface (so the material won't stretch upon impact), and also decrease the "grabbing" of the material against the jersey. Additional, removeable pillows under shoulder floaters for custom fit. Separate, secondary HD foam protection sits beneath the main floaters and over the shoulder joint, and an additional, widened HD foam rib cage wing helps keep pucks from slipping under the arms.
The chest pad design features three (3) independent layers for extreme flexibility and protection with multiple load paths to decrease impacts. The lower chest pad belly flap allows the unit to flex when crouching so the unit stays positioned even in a deep crouch. New side chest pad extensions extend over the upper rib cage to both increase protection and cover the side attachment buckle.
Arm floaters are anatomically positioned to stay in place while moving, and wide bicep molded caps add to protection and net coverage. Multiple adjustment points for arm width and elbow cap position insure a custom fit.
