The Key factor is the overall length. The length can be divided into three sections:

A.The boot

B.Instep to knee

C.Knee to top or thigh rise

The proper length of the goal pad boot is determined by the goalie's skate size. The next key area is the instep to knee that determines the shin length. Finally, the knee to top or thigh rise is a personal measurement depending on how much pant and pad overlap the goaltender prefers. A general rule is 7" to 8".

A.Skates size: provide the skate size for proper boot fit.

B.Instep to knee: measure from instep to the front center of kneecap while leg is in slightly bent position.

C. Thigh rise: measure from front center of kneecap up the thigh to desire height.

A + B + C = Estimated size of pad

If fitted properly, the goalie's knee should rest directly behind the center knee roll with the pad securely attached to the goal skate and properly strapped on the goaltender's leg. Generally, this will ensure that the pad breaks (bends) at the knee/shin and ankle as designed for optimal performance.

PRODUCT Q & A

33+1 vs 33+2?

Hello, I would be a 33 and see mostly the 33+1 model is available. I have seen a couple 33+2's however as well. I have been out of the game several years and my old Brians pads are 33 altramax. I play more stand up box style. what would be the pros and cons to 33+2's? and would essentially either one work? this is for the G-Netik pro pad. thank you
Asked by: brianspaduser
The best thing to do would be to get sized up and properly fitted. Sometimes the +2 is a great feature that can allow for a better while in the butterfly. Here is a video that demonstrates how to be properly sized. http://goalie.totalhockey.com/support/How_to_fit_goalie_leg_pads/pg_id/146

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, I would recommend the same size.

Which is lighter, the new Vaughn 2200 or G-Netiks

Asked by: Heipfam
I don't have the 2200 exact weight off hand, but I believe the GNETiK is the lighter of the two options.

How stiff are the rebounds?

Asked by: Anonymous
The foam used on the face of Brian's pads is fairly stiff, I would compare the rebounds more like a Reebok P4 that a soft pad like a Vaughn. The rebounds are fairly active.

Are the new gnetiks taller than last years pro stock?

Asked by: Anonymous
Because the GNETiks are a straighter pad than the Prostock, they do tend to size larger. You can email me your height, ATK, etc and I can help you with sizing. JMartin@TotalHockey.com

Straping

I know you can remove the leather straps but is there a spot you can put a thigh strap onto or is that thru custom only? I have always liked having that top thigh strap to close the 5 hole even more.. I know the Sub Zero pads it was only thru custom
Asked by: Anonymous
Adding a thigh strap to the GNETik is only available through custom.

Custom

Are the stock G-netiks, like the same ones you buy in the store the same as the custom G-netiks. Also can you get the G-netiks in just one break. Thanks!
Asked by: Anonymous
We carry two Gnetiks in store the "stock" 3 colors (all white, white/black, white/black/red) and we have our "TG SPEC COLORS", which are the same specs as the "stock" pad but in our custom colors. No special mods were done to our Gnetiks. We can custom order you a pair of Gnetiks in your own colors with single knee break, you would also receive double reward points for the custom order. Please give our customer service line a call to discuss all your options.

durability of the velcro?

I've had a few pads where the velcro on the pads are worn after 2-3 month of play, and I've had to sow on new ones. how durable is the velcro? since in my head, the smart-straps velcro is more likely to get a lot more wear to it with non-straps. (Still, i haven't been around the smart-strap system or Brians, but the G-netik pads caught my eye, as a former vaughn user, but stuck with the p4's)
Asked by: Anonymous
This same Smart Strap technology in the G-NETiKs is also used in the Sub Zero's as well, and we have had zero complaints about that. The velcro that is used in the G-NETiK pad is of the highest quality so you won't have any problems with it.
