The Vaughn GX1 Pro Goal skate has been several years in the making, and the designers at Vaughn have designed each element of the skate to meet the unique needs of today's goaltender.
The boot is taller on the sides to more fully wrap around the goalie's foot, and it has a unique forward pitch at the ankle to give the goalie more control when moving around the net. The ankle design is anatomically correct to fit precisely around the goalie's ankle bones, and the padding is placed to keep the heel well seated and prevent heel lift. The toe cap is wider than most skates on the market for added comfort, and the outsole is made of carbon fiber to both reduce weight and keep the boot from twisting when pushing. The tongue of the skate is made of a combination of orthopedic foams, HD foam and gel to provide superior comfort and also prevent lace bite.
The full shell design is taller and somewhat thicker than most shells on the market - especially at the toe where most impacts occur. An angled bevel "resting spot" has been placed on the inside edge of the skate to take a more aggressive angle to the ice when pushing laterally. The posts of the cowling have all been designed to provide the best "grab" angle for the leg pad straps,
The runner is made of 4mm stainless steel, and the blade position is angled two degrees towards the outside of the boot to give the goalie a better lateral push angle. The blade's front two attachment points have been placed closer together to increase blade strength and reduce blade flex when pushing from the toe or ball of the foot. These features allow the goalie to get a much more efficient energy transfer to the ice when skating.
